Website Design
We use Macromedia Dreamweaver and Fireworks for our website design software. Dreamweaver is an almost WYSISYG webpage design program that doesn't mutilate hand coded pages and doesn't insert a ton of garbage (produces clean HTML code). Fireworks is an image editing program (somewhat like Photoshop) with features for integration into Dreamweaver. Fireworks has built in features to make building buttons easily.
Dreamweaver CS3
Installing Dreamweaver CS3 installs a service ("Bonjour") that typically is not essential. This service is used by "Version Cue" which is not used by Dreamweaver (nor Fireworks).
Knowledge base article kb400982 explains how to remove this service:
- Run "C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe -remove"
- Rename the mdnsNSP.dll (in the \Program Files\Bonjour folder)
- Restart your PC

An Add-on for Firefox called "Firebug" is an excellent tool. One of it's features is to be able to observe how much time each component of a webpage took, thus allowing you to identify the aspects of your webpage that cause it to be slow.
