Lumaden had been on Kunark for about a week, battling
sarnak, goblins, iksar, skeletons, and sabertooth tigers, hoping to find
finely crafted weapons worthy of being given to the guild. He had been
spending his nights either in Fironia Vie or in Professor Akabo's windmill.
On one of these nights, he had a vision. In the dream, he saw his father,
holding out the Star Blade, a great treasure and his family's namesake.
It had been handed down Lumaden's line since the dawn of Elvenkind, but
was lost when Lumaden's father was killed by Ogres. It is said that Lumaden's
father had it sealed away by magic, to be returned to Lumaden when the
boy had proven himself. When Lumaden reached out to take the Star Blade,
his father pulled it back, shook his head, and disappeared.
When Lumaden woke up, he was informed that Strag
Truelight, his commanding officer, had become a Hero. Lumaden, being the
intelligent type as well as an Elder Elf, put two and two together and
believed that the road to recovering the Star Blade, a weapon that could
possibly even defeat Rallos Zek and Duhee Midgetmoncher, began with becoming
a Hero. Lumaden knew the value of patience, and the bottom is the best
place to start, so he left Kunark to begin his quest for squirehood. He
first boarded the Maiden's Voyage, and Elven ship and the fastest in the
world, and returned to Feydwer. He journeyed to Clan Crushbone, where he
gained the aid of a dwarf and two humans in assaulting the tower. The dwarf
was there to gain the Dragoon Dirk of Ambassador D'Vinn, and the others
were along for the ride. Crush appeared several times, as did his Royal
Guard and The Prophet. Crush escaped the group's fury many times, but was
eventually slain. The Tunic was Lumaden's The Prophet was also killed,
and Lumaden bears his head.
Upon going to Felwithe Keeper to store away the
tunic and head, Lumaden heard cries coming from the back room. "No, you
cannot! Think of the children!" A husband and wife, Crafted and Zolacca,
were arguing. Crafted blamed his wife of infidelity, swearing that she
was seeing a Wood Elf named Snowfall. Zolacca cried that she had done no
such thing, and that Crafted was leaving her and their twelve children
with nothing. After much talking and calm, Lumaden got the two to reaffirm
their vows, and Crafted gave his wife all of his protection, a staff and
a robe, as a sign of his devotion. Lumaden, feeling very pleased with himself,
departed by Wizard Transportation to Freeport the next day.
Lumaden went to Befallen to find the Barbed Arms.
Having never been there before, he was apprehensive, but still brave. He
walked right on in, noticing the Elven Architecture. He recognized it,
and assumed that it was a High Elf city destroyed long ago, and moved underground
to suit the tastes of the new inhabitants. After some searching, Lumaden
came across a well. Curious as to whether it still held water, he approached.
Lumaden looked down a long drop, and was about to step back when a bony
hand pushed him over. "Oh, no," he thought, "This is it..." He managed
to land on his feet without many serious injuries. His newest concern was
climbing back up. He wouldn't be able to get up the way he came, not with
his armor. So he stepped out into what appeared to be a torture chamber.
A ghoul jumped from behind a pillar and attacked. Lumaden defeated the
ghoul, which was immediately replaced by another...and another...and another!
Lumaden fought them valiantly, but they seemed to have the edge over him.
It was down to a severely injured Lumaden and a fully healthy ghoul, and
all seemed lost, when the ghoul suddenly screeched in pain and fell, a
knife in its back. Lumaden's savior was a Dark Elven Rogue named Caiser.
The thief aided Lumaden in climbing out of the hole, and even led him to
the Ogre's quarters. There Lumaden met Theses, a young warrior searching
for Barbed Legs. They fought together and defeated the Ogre. Lumaden got
the arms, and Theses got the key to the room where the legs were held.
The two went to the deepest reaches of Befallen, where they were attacked
by theurgists, apprentices, and the skeleton of an elf. The elf had the
hilt of a mallet clutched in his hand. Lumaden, face pale, defeated the
skeleton and looked around. He saw a glint on the wall. Rubbing away millenia
of dust, his suspicions were confirmed as he read the plaque beneath. He
had defeated the animated skeleton of his father. He was in the remains
of his home. The necromancers had broken into the Starblade Tomb, and simply
made an edition to their fortress from it. Lumaden's mother had wielded
a mallet. When she died, she was buried with the head, and Lumaden's father
kept the hilt. Lumaden and Theses fought on, but the Barbed Legs were not
found. They went back topside and found a Derv camp, where they easily
found the rings Lumaden needed. After they parted, Lumaden went to the
import shop in Freeport for a Greater Light Stone. After all was done in
East Tunaria, He took the aid of a wizard to go to Qeynos. Lumaden went
to Blackburrow and needed to slay but one Gnoll before he found a Studded
Leather Collar. He then went south to Lake Rathetear. Upon entering, he
saw an Ogre and a Troll battling Gnolls. He knew he needed the staff of
the Gnoll High Shaman, so he jumped into the fray. The Troll was slain,
but the Ogre survived, only to bind Lumaden for the evening meal. Lumaden
convinced the creature of his prowess in battle. The Ogre decided that
he would have Lumaden aid him in battling the undead, and eat him in the
morning. Lumaden ad the Ogre defeated many a skeleton, but all to quickly,
the sun rose. As Lumaden cut down another undead terror, a blast of magic
from behind felled the Ogre. Lumaden was liberated by a Wizard who was
passing through. The two fought together, and eventually, Lumaden got the
staff. As they returned to Qeynos, a terrified adventurer barrelled past
them. Lumaden knew that this could be back, so he yelled for the Wizard
to get down. It was two late, for the cyclops that the adventurer had been
running from had spotted the black-clad caster. Lumaden tried to fight
the beast off, but the Wizard was killed, and Lumaden knew he had to run.
The Paladin barely made it the the bridge to North Karana.
Only one item left, Lumaden journeyed to Everfrost
to seek the nomad Karg Icebear. He enlisted the aid of other adventurers
to track down the elusive Barbarian. After what seemed like hours of searching,
an Erudian woman said that she was keeping Karg at bay near Permafrost.
Lumaden had never been there before, but his instincts (and mastery of
Sense Heading) found the place with relative ease. Lumaden paid Karg to
make the cloak, and paid the Erudite with a CrysKnife and Skull of Jhen'tra,
plus the extra money he had on him. Karg was promptly slain by a waiting
Bard. Lumaden returned just in time for the Unrest raid to save Cally.
This is the tale of Lumaden's journey. May the Bards tell it across
the land! May his future quests be even greater!
