Balar left Kaladim early in life desiring the opportunity to lead talented adventurers in battle. The conservative leadership in Kaladim obviously wasn't the place for him. In Freeport Balar met the lovely druid, Delora. They became good friends and travelled across all the lands of Norrath. Eventually Delora and Balar grew so close that they've become known as man and wife although a formal ceremony has never been performed.
Soon Balar formed the Starfire guild and forged a talented team of adventurers including Rynhawk, Boramur, Leldin, Alnar, Tiur, Delora, Dismey, Dcybele, Odyssy, Jakob, Centiera, Noet, Cinda, and Hakan (& many others). The rescue missions to save the adventurous hobbit, Hakan, became legendary.
Delora and Balar were making wedding plans when news of Lanys T'Vyl's planned assault on High Hold was discovered. Balar quickly set aside the plans for his personal life and organized an army to march on Neriak. Lanys T'Vyl came out of Neriak and met Balar face to face. Balar fell back knowing full well that a dead leader is no leader at all. The gods were amused as Lanys T'Vyl's horrible legions cut deeply into Balar's army until they retreated from Nektulos. Four days later Lanys T'Vyl lead her army toward High Hold, but Balar was prepared! A great battle was fought and Lanys T'Vyl was slain leading to the haunting of Kithicor. In honor of Balar's firm leadership and defense of High Hold he was given a pair of diamond earrings and the gods whispered to him that High Hold was now his to rule (although Carson McCabe still remains the figurehead leader in High Hold).
While Balar is skilled in virtually all weapon types he more leader than warrior. His battle armor has been replaced with the less durable but more distinguished Blackenned Iron armor. He now wears the Goblin King's Blackenned Iron Crown as a symbol of his victory in RunnyEye. The crown was delivered to him by the strong hands of Strag (renowned Paladin and an important commander in the Forces of Light).
Eventually the sturdy dwarf recognized the need for all the guilds of Norrath to work together and hence the Bristlebane Ambassador's Council was formed. Balar worked tirelessly to bring these ambassadors together to make their words heard by the gods. Unfortunately the gods wouldn't listen. Some gods spoke directly with Balar and the ambassadors but their message was that we would receive no support or encouragement from the gods.... we are on our own!
Balar declared that he would form the Forces of Light, a fighting force to combat darkness everywhere. The Forces of Light is an alliance of all guilds to battle darkness. All those with honor and integrity are encouraged to take up the banner of Light and defeat darkness anywhere possible. The evil powers recognized Balar's efforts and knew they must organize opposition and hence the Forces of Darkness came to be.
