Sunaien
Deep in the caverns of Neriak, on a night when the constellation of Solusek Ro was at it's peak, a mother's cries of agony echoed through the city. The birth that took place that night had been foretold in an ancient prophecy. The sages said that the infant's power was fueled by it's two souls, and the mother had died mysteriously as soon as she had given birth. This infant must be hidden from the residents of the Third Gate; this was no servant of Innoruuk.
True to his Teir'Dal heritage, Sunaien grew to enjoy spreading Darkness, but he sought power above all else. Unlike his peers, Sunaien ignored the teachings of the clerics of Innoruuk. He sought enlightenment through destruction and power and eventually learned the ways of Solusek Ro. After becoming apprenticed to a wizard, the other young Teir'Dal immediately began considering him an outcast and labeled him one of "The Spurned." Sunaien spent his entire youth trying to ignore these fools; he knew that it was his destiny to rise above them eventually. Eventually, his power was noticed by the Forces of Darkness. Sunaien hastily joined them, seeing that their power would benefit him as much as his power would help them as well as the delight in their battles against the petty Forces of Light.
Why Sunaien is now an alcoholic
One day Sunaien found an old tome while he was living in Innothule for a short time. It was written in troll, and knowing that the only trolls that were literate were the shamen, Sunaien knew there must be interesting magiks inside. His troll wasn't very good, but he could make out that the leather cover of the book had something to do with the secrets of "alchemy." The art of preparing these magical brews was well guarded by the troll shamen and Sunaien immediately began studying the book, hoping to use it to his advantage.
The first recipe he began working on was some strange mixture called Bog Juice. The tome seemed to suggest that this rank liquid would grant amazing strength to anyone who drank it. Other recipe's spoke of fire breath and being able to see anything that was previously invisible. After he had brewed a significant amount of Bog Juice, Sunaien finally decided to try it. It tasted horrible and didn't seem to have any effect, so Sunaien drank another. Annoyed at the lack of effectiveness, Sunaien was determined to drink until he felt something. After working his way into a drunken stupor Sunaien slowly (he couldn't think very well any more) began to realize that he had incorrectly translated the cover of that tome. The word he had read as alchemy, should have been read as alcohol. Strangely though, Sunaien DID feel stronger, and all of his anxiety about living up to his destiny and being cast out by his home seemed to melt away also. After sobering up, Sunaien tried a different recipe. This one tasted better, and still had the wonderful effect of letting him forget about being Spurned. Now, whenever Sunaien isn't able to stay occupied with hunting or questing, he finds himself drifting towards the brew barrel. Sunaien seems to live a double life these days; that of a power-hungry wizard, and that of a drunken reveler.
