Legend of the Elennar Swords

In the year of 1224 BC, by the Christian calendar, the elves of Hibernia, the dwarves of Midgard and the druids of Avalon came together to forge three swords. The intent of these swords was to bind the lands together in harmony. Each sword would give it's possessor a gift of leadership and would help them to rally others to follow their lead. These swords were to shine with the brightness of the fires of the stars as a beacon of leadership (hence the name "Elennar" which literally means "star fire").

During the forging and enchanting it was discovered that some key piece of magic was missing. Kazimain, a Judian Cabalist was sought out for her knowledge to provide the missing link. Kazimain brought the Egyptian knowledge of the afterlife to the alliance, but failed to realize just how very wrong this effort would go.

There are many rumors of what went wrong, but the truth will probably never be known. Every side is blamed in one rumor or another, but it's clear that at least one of the mages involved in the forging attempted to sneaky an ill enchantment in such that one of the swords would hold power over the others. Legend has it that Kazimain detected this and thwarted it. However in doing so Kazimain was thrown into a necromantic coma, the conditions of which are not clear.

As a result of the foul play and subterfuge the factions fell to intense quarreling which resulted in even more division and warring between the lands. So the effort to bring peace backfired and lead to even greater strife. The swords were taken by each realm and used against each other.

The history of the swords is obscured at this point, legends are all that tell us of the fate of each. The Avalonian sword is rumored to be the same sword known as "Excalibur" which was given to Arthur and led to a brief period of strong leadership and progress. As per the popular stories this sword was returned to the Lady of the Lake and remains lost to the mortal world.

The dwarven sword was rumored to be lost deep in some dwarven citadel beneath the earth. Legend tells of the jealousy of some dark beast from the bowels of the earth slaying the great dwarven lord and taking the sword deep into the darkness never to be seen again. Some legends name this beast a "balrog".

The third sword, which ties closer to our story, was rumored to have been spirited away with the slumbering Kazimain. However we know the sword never made it back to the middle east, somewhere along the journey it was lost. As we know, it now is in the possession of Lord Balar. It would appear that the saracen party was intercepted by barbarians somewhere in the vicinity of northern Italy. Popular belief is that the sword was somehow obtained by Caesar and lead to the rise of the Roman Empire. How the line of Caesar's managed to lose the sword is not known, but the loss of the sword is also credited with the fall of the Roman Empire.
