Silia

The Tale of Silia the Wizard – The Beginning

The young tailor looked up from his task as the guards entered his shoppe.

“Well, what has he done now?” he enquired of the sergeant of the guard.

“Jonathin, this young brother of yours is more trouble than he’s worth. This time, he has gone too far. Brother Onoloth wants his hide for this last stunt he’s played. And frankly, I am inclined to give it to him. It seems Silia somehow managed to give the good Brother a bit of a hot foot during the confessional. Lord Adribard’s confession was abruptly interrupted by the howling and screaming of Onoloth as he jumped and hopped around the Abby. His Lordship tried to hide his amusement and chased after the young prankster. He would have caught him too, if Silia hadn’t figured out some way to freeze his Lordship’s boots to the floor.

“I don’t know whether to haul your brother off to the dungeon or admire him for his quick wit and growing skill with the magics of The Lady. But, I have my orders. I am to find Silia and have him sent to Lethantis for training and discipline. Hopefully they will be able to direct and focus his talents to something a bit more useful than childish pranks and such.”

Putting his sewing aside, Jonathin turned towards the back room in the small house he shared with his younger brother. The guards followed him in, and saw no sign of the mischevious Silia. Jonathin knew better however. With a wave of his hand and a few words of incantation, Silia appeared and stood there silent and stunned. Snapping his fingers, Silia regained his wits.

“Jonathin, I swear by the Lady, next time you do that I’ll…..”

His sentence was never finished as Jonathin waved his hand again and silenced the youngster.

“Silia, I know you can hear me so listen good. I made a promise to our father and mother to look after you. I have taught you to read and fed and clothed you better than most in this swamp. You’re a bright and very good lad most of the time. But you have a streak about you that will not be tamed by me I’m afraid. I cannot bring myself to punish you as your actions have warranted. Your little stunt today went too far. Lord Adribard has sent these guards to take you to Lethantis where you will be trained to use your talents for good, and hopefully they will not spare the staff when your foolishness gets the better of you.”

The guards took hold of Silia’s arms and quickly ushered him outside the house where his hands were bound, his mouth gagged and legs shackled. Once completed, the long walk to Lethantis was started, where Silia would learn to refine his skills as a Wizard.
