Marconus

Well then..I guess since it is your silver providing this fine meal, I can give you at least a bit of my humble beginnings. With the raids going on within the realm and the other realms constantly trying to invade, I was wondering how long it would take for the guilds to finally start coming to us Mercs, but you need to understand friend that we may be for hire but we are not ones to throw our lives away at your whims. Also understand that I do not run from a fight.

My life starts as all do. I was born. I came from the village of Humberton, the son of a soldier father and a seamstress mother and have had the distinct honor to grow up in the shadow of the city of Camelot itself. With the death of Arthur, the knights are in disarray. Though we have a new king, Constantine I believe it is, he is no Arthur though he tries. As a child I used to dream of sitting at my own place at the Table Round though these were merely dreams as I hold no title and therefore can not become a knight. I developed a skill with a sword and other weapons such as the axes I use for the moment and after my parents passing, I set out to make my way in the world.

Do not judge me good sir for you have yet to earn that right and though the name of Mercenary implies "Sword for Hire" you will find that my price for my sword may be something you are not able to afford. If I sought merely coin, I could get that easily enough in the chaos that we live in today. There are all forms of creatures that roam this land that prey on the weak and helpless that provide not only arms and armor to one who can end their rampage but also items of worth that can be sold and sometimes both coin and gem as well. The price of my sword arm is the cause, not the coin. I see I have your curiousity peaked.

As I said, I had dreamed of sitting at the table round one day. I may not have the title of a knight but I do have the heart and soul of one. If your cause is just and honorable and your companions brave as well as compationate then maybe we can talk. If you have more like Lady Raivyn then you have a good start. She helped me get my start in this world with a bit of coin to help with armor in return for the aid of my weapon arm later on, which she will have. I am a man of my word if anything. Our honor is all we have to take with us from this world when we depart from it for the last time and I intend to keep mine intact.

I have recently spent my time in the Tomb of Mithra though that is soon to change. I try to help the lower clerics get around the creatures to practice their healing magics when I can and attempt to dispatch the denisens of that foul place at other times. This has provided much sport and more than one hearty fight, but it may be time to move on. Just recently I have had the opportunity to join members of your band in combat with the giants in our lands. We were victorious for our efforts and your people have shown great spirit in battle. I like that.

Well there you have it and I see we have managed to finish our meal as well. The repast was excellent and the company stimulating. I hope my trivial story did not bore you too much. I am afraid there have been no dragons in my life yet to talk about. As I said, if your cause is just then maybe we can do business. If not.....well, I thank you for the meal and maybe we will cross paths again.

Give my regards to the Lady Raivyn when you see her next.
