Seige Percival Alliance Charter
(as of June 22, 2002)
Two ideals stand at the center of the Siege Percival Alliance, twin pillars on which the entire alliance is built and maintained. Those ideals are Roleplaying and Community.
Roleplaying
Siege Percival is dedicated to bringing life and story to the world created by Mythic in Dark Age of Camelot. Our stories and our interactions will provide continuity and rich detail to the game world, and expand the reason for playing beyond experience levels, loot, realm points, and relics. Our histories, politics, and stories are completely player-driven, though they will be designed to fit seamlessly into the mythos provided by Mythic Entertainment, so as not to contrast and cause difficulty in play.
As an alliance with Roleplaying at its core, it is expected that guilds in Siege Percival will have Roleplaying as one of their prime priorities. We desire for each guild in our Alliance to contribute in some way, no matter how small, to the effort of providing storylines and in-character interaction for the rest of the Alliance. We understand that not every member of every guild will be a dedicated roleplayer, but all members should encourage roleplaying and not detract from the stories of others.
The reason for a Roleplaying Alliance is to bring stories out to others, and to involve them in your stories and to be involved in theirs. It may mean that sometimes you are the hero of the story, and sometimes you are only a supporting character. Sometimes you may be a rival or a villian, and sometimes you may take a dramatic fall for the integrity and entertainment of the story. But there will always be opportunities to be involved if you are open-minded and interested, and every part, large or small, is a welcome addition to the experience.
Community
The second ideal of the Siege Percival Alliance is Community. Community means acting for the benefit of a body greater than the self. Acting as a guild, as an alliance, and as a realm. It means that as a member of Siege Percival, you are expected not only to effort in our own enjoyment and happiness, but to try to extend that enjoyment and happiness to others of your alliance and your realm.
Comraderie is a part of Community. It means making an effort to work with your fellows in the Alliance. It means going to the roleplaying events, saying hello when you run across them, and grouping with them when hunting or defending the frontier. Making sure no one feels left out in the Alliance is key, because we need everyone to participate for the Alliance to work its best.
Consideration is also part of Community. Consideration for your alliance fellows is the first part. Be flexible and forgiving. If an alliance-mate is not as comfortable roleplaying as you are, encourage them, but do not force them. If a problem ensues over loot or a disagreement, work it out cordially, involving guildmasters or officers if necessary. Do not turn it into a public, inter-guild feud. Be mindful of the fact that every time you help an alliance-mate, you are strengthening the Alliance, and everytime you are rude to one, you are weakening us all.
Consideration also extends to our realm of Albion. The Siege Percival Alliance is not the whole of Albion, and we should all be aware of that fact. We should extend a welcome and helping hand to those who are young and new, who may be confused or seeking assistance. It's likely we were all there once, and it's likely those new and young people are the future of our realm. We should always welcome other guilds to our activities and events if they desire to be involved, regardless of the fact that they may not be official alliance members. And we should always volunteer to assist the other alliances of Albion in their endeavors. This builds a united community of Albion, and it is the only way we will prosper as a realm.
Other Facets of the Alliance
Event Teams
The Siege Percival Alliance will depend heavily on events to keep interaction flowing between our members. The duty of ensuring that events keep happening falls upon three event planning teams: the RP Events Team, the RvR Events Team, and the Community Events Team.
The RP Events Team is the most important team in the Alliance. They will manage the backgrounds of the characters in the alliance, collecting information from the members that they can use to formulate storylines and interactions that apply directly to the people involved. Each guild in the Siege Percival Alliance is expected to designate at least one individual to be a member of the RP Events Team. This individual, or those individuals, will be responsible for collecting backgrounds and in-character information about their guildmates and passing it on the RP Events Team, who can then work as a unit to form storylines appealing to the guilds and members involved.
The RvR Events Team focuses on keeping the Siege Percival Alliance involved in the realm-versus-realm element of the game. This team is not expected to be as roleplaying-centered as the RP Events Team, though there are times when the two teams will work together to form roleplaying RvR Events. But the RvR Events Team will also work with the other alliances of Albion to ensure we are all on the same page when it comes to relic raids and other realm-wide events. The RvR Event Team should also work to ensure that those in the Alliance capable of RvR combat are knowledgeable in how it works. It is not required that each guild have at least one member on the RvR Events Team, but it is encouraged so that they have representation there.
The Community Events Team is responsible for making sure our Alliance works closely together when they are not involved in a roleplaying storyline or a realm-vs.-realm campaign. The Community Events team is encouraged to sponsor regular hunts for all levels, whether they be Alliance raids into the Tomb of Mithra for our young members or attacks upon the Legendary Afanc for our elders. They should work with the RP Events Team to put storyline behind some events, but not every grouping or hunt is required to have a deeply woven story. This team's primary focus is to ensure that our alliance members are working together, so they will know each other and be more comfortable roleplaying together and work more efficiently and fluidly in RvR. Not every member guild in the Alliance is required to designate a Community Events member, but it is encouraged so that each guild has a voice in community events.
Factions
Part of the roleplaying element of this alliance includes story-driven and player-run factions, or groups of characters with a united agenda. The purpose of these factions is to add more background to characters, encourage story plots, and add more interaction between characters of various guilds. Some factions will be fairly public, some will be very secretive, so the amount of public knowledge about each will vary. Only the RP Events Team will have a full knowledge of all the factions in the Alliance, so that they can create stories involving the factions will maintaining the suspense and drama for other players.
Acceptance into a faction will often be invite-only, handled through in-game roleplaying or out-of-game prose. Some factions may require a prospective member to pass some sort of initiation, usually a roleplayed event or quest. It is possible to ask to join a faction out-of-character, but it is up to the faction to make the final decision and the actual invitation process will always be handled in-character.
General Event Etiquette
Before attending an event, try to familiarize yourself with the rules and story outlined by the event organizer. If there are rules to follow and a story to follow, please follow them.
If the event has designated leaders, listen to those leaders. Helpful and polite suggestions may be welcome, but giving counter-orders or causing similar disruptions is not.
If you are not enjoying an event or do not agree with the way it is being run, please endure the event quietly and politely or leave it quietly. There will be feedback forums for events after they are run, but you should not disrupt the event as it is going on to voice your dissatisfaction.
If someone at an event is bothering you and/or disrupting the event, please ask them to stop by using a polite /send message. If that does not work, take the issue to their guildmaster or their guild's officers personally. Do not take it to alliance chat or publicly disrupt the event yourself with the issue.
In-Character and Out-of-Character Speech
For public and alliance chat channels, the use of in-character speech is seen as important and necessary. As a roleplaying alliance, we want to encourage in-character speech between members. For the purposes of this discussion, public chat channels are channels such as /say, /yell, /whisper, /asend, and /broadcast. In those public channels, speech should be largely in-character. Out-of-character speech is sometimes unavoidable, but when you have to say something out-of-character, please denote it by either surrounding it in [OOC: ] brackets or at least in ( ).
Guild chat is regulated by each individual guild. The Alliance does not require a guild's own guild chat to be in-character, that is up to the guild to decide
Private sends are not regulated by the Alliance. They are between the person sending and the person receiving.
Group chat channels depend on the nature of the group. We encourage in-character discussion in group chat channels where the group is entirely made up of Alliance members. But in mixed groups, we can not expect non-Alliance members to participate in-character, and it can also become difficult for Alliance members to be in-character in those situations. So we leave it up to the group to make the decision on what feels right.
Chat groups follow similar rules. It depends on who is running the chat group and who is in the chat group. It is left up to the person running the chat group to decide on its purpose and use.
In RvR situations, it is often difficult to stay in-character with public messages, and its very likely you will be working with people not in our alliance who don't expect to stay in-character. However, we do encourage you stay as in-character as possible in these situations, even if the messages are short and terse. "Fifty Mids approaching!" can still be considered in-character.
As always, keep even in-character conversation appropriate. You are often not aware of the ages and maturity levels of the people behind the characters, and that should always be kept in mind. Public, in-character speech should be appropriate for all audiences. What you do in private is up to you.
Alliance Chat Usage
In the Siege Percival Alliance, alliance chat is more than just an RvR early warning system. It is a community-building tool, to bring the guilds closer together. Still, because it is a very public chat that is viewed by many, there are rules to its usage.
/asend can be used for the following:
Informing other Alliance members about events
Requesting an Alliance meeting
Communicating information relevant to alliance events
Conveying information on enemy movements in the frontier
Calling to arms for raids into the frontier or for necessary defense
"One-line" advertising for a craftsmen*
"One-line" advertising for a group*
/asend can not be used for the following:
Idle chatter
Spam of any sort, even spammed announcements
Arguments of any type
Replies to "one-line" advertisements
* "One-line" advertisements are simple, one-line, once-sent advertisements.
They should convey details simply and easily, and leave a contact name for anyone
wishing to reply to via /send. They are not to be sent repeatedly, they should
only be sent every once in awhile. No replies are to be taken as no current
interest. An example of a one-line craftsman advertisement would be "Hamir,
craftsman of weapons, is now taking orders for any weapons of up to adamantium
quality, send me a message if interested!" An example of a one-line group
advertisement would be "Requesting comrades of 8th to 11th season to descend
into the Tomb of Mithra. Send Elvithiel a message if you wish to join!"
Replies to any one-line message should be conducted through /sends, and not
through /asend.
As always, use common sense. If /asend is being overwhelmed with information
on enemy troop movements, then would not be a good time to advertise your craft.
Policy Making
To alter or add to our charter will require a vote (each guild having two votes). For a successful change to be made requires a 60% approval by the participating voters. (at this time no official quorum is required) Votes shall be made in the "Policy Voting" forum. A vote must be posted with a length of three days and notification of a vote via e-mail is requested (but if someone forgets we won't hang them)." After making a vote it is appreciated if you acknowledge that you voted so that we can know who might be missing or not participating.
Voting procedure for acceptance of a new alliance guild:
1) Acceptance of a new guild requires a 75% approval (of participating
voters).
2) Votes on the acceptance of a new guild into the alliance
shall be run for a period of four days.
Joining the Siege Percival Alliance
At this time, the best option for expressing your desire to join is to e-mail Kaddara, Balar & Hamir, the alliance's invitation team. Kaddara is leading this team.
